Min Min was announced for Smash today, and is disappointing in the wake of the Black Lives Matter movement.
A month ago, it was announced that a character from one of Nintendo’s newest IPs, ARMS, would fit the first slot of Ultimate’s fighter pass 2. This was exciting due to one possible character: Twintelle. Twintelle, if announced, would be the first woman of color in Smash Ultimate, finally breaking the glass ceiling that has been around since the series’ initial launch in 1999.
Alas, this is not the case. We are stuck with another whitewashed “sexy” white girl who will be overplayed because incels like playing as white girls.
She will probably play like the rest of the white girls on the roster. Min Min, while not the worst possible choice, was a disappointment to staunch supporters of BLM, such as myself
Misango, another POC in the game, albeit a man, would have satisfied us, but we couldn’t even get that.
POC representation is desperately needed in this game, and hopefully, the next 4 DLC characters will be POCs, but for now, Min Min is a hard pass
