A blocky situation fixed.

At Inclusive Gamer, we’re often asked to review and verify games. Its what we do. Unfortunately, the most common request is for the dreaded game, Minecraft.

Known for its terrible past with creator Notch, it has become a hub for alt-right trolls to create a toxic environment not safe for anyone. They create “fun” servers to draw in and indoctrinate innocent children in their racist, homophobic ways. But that’s all about to change. Once a hub for alt-right trolls to create blocky images of their evil idols such as Trump and Hitler, it is no more. Why? Journalists are taking over.

Why is this allowed?

I had the opportunity to speak with community manager Aurora Aventina Mironov about why she decided to make the server:

“When I found out that Dustin was considering Project Goodcraft, I was enthralled. I think the very nature of a plan to turn around a historically violent media and use it to show how good people can be is like watching a daisy in a warzone.”

The very idea of a journalist approved Goodcraft server came with mixed reviews. Bigots cried out begging us to not “ruin” their game, but how could we ruin a game that was never good in the first place? They saw our daisy and wanted to squash it, but they forgot the sheer will power of Levitt’s desire to spread good faith to new media. The outpour of love and support over the simple idea of a safe space for gamers to come and chill brought tears to the eyes of my comrades and I. The aforementioned bigots now see our beautiful daisy, the same daisy they wanted to crush, and they have finally realised its beauty. What was once a wave of disrespect became utter support and an obvious cry for help to give Goodcraft a beautiful name.

Mironov continues:

“So I dove in headfirst and helped plan it. Players are given choices in everything they do. There are virtual vices like drugs and alcohol. There are weapons. There is even a pseudo gentleman’s club. But on the flip side, there’s an extensive gardening system, there are spiritual epicentres, and there’s even a marriage system. In this, the player ultimately gets to decide, when nobody else is watching, will they be good? Or will they fall victim to the very things that have destroyed humanity? Based on our research and our feelings, I really think the player base is overwhelmingly going to choose the good path.”

However, it does beg the question, will the alt-right bigots enter the server to only see the drugs, alcohol and weapons? Or will they see the support of sex work? Will they see the promotion of veganism? Will they let their bigoted views get in the way of a perfect utopia?

Say goodbye to the days you feared to log into Goodcraft. Say goodbye to constantly looking over your shoulders, because we’re here to protect you.

“This will send a message to gamers everywhere. That we are now in their space and we are going to make it our own.” ~ Aurora Aventina Mironov
